Apple is reported to test 10 prototypes of iPhone 8, including OLED curved screen version

He stated that this curved screen of iPhone 8 prototype will apply OLED screen. OLED is a new-type technology and has more advantages compared with LCD. The screen is thinner and flectional. OLED is power-saving as it pixeldot can be lighted independently.

Samsung will offer a great part of OLED screens to Apple in 2017. This reveal is in accordance with the news reported by Bloomberg. From 2018, Apple will cut down Samsung orders and turn to LG Display, Sharp, and Japan Display to place orders in 2018.

To LG Display, Sharp and Japan Display, they have to invest more capital to meet the requirements that Apple orders for OLED screens. Their investments on OLED technology are fewer than Samsung’s. Samsung invested about $10 billion on OLED technology this year.

By contrast, LG Display will plan to invest about $3 billion by 2018. Sharp announced in September that it would invest $ 570 million and start producing in April, 2018. While LG Display plans to invest $1 billion on OLED. To meet Apple’s demand on OLED, Sharp has to invest $5 billion.

Sharp CEO claimed:” He is not sure whether OLED has prosperity future. OLED technology is immaturity yet and hard to product high quality productions”.

To commemorate 10th anniversary of iPhone release, Apple may release a brand-new design OLED iPhone next year. Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst of KGI security, stated in his report made this month that Apple would release three iPhone versions next year with 4.7-inch, 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch screens.

The 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions will be iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. While 5.2-inch version will be OLED iPhone.

The confirmed source also implied that Apple may give up the release of iPhone OLED version as it is testing on 10 prototypes of iPhone 8 now.
